Are You The Master Of Your Mind Or Are You Its Slave? In This Case It’s Either, Or.

Hi gang, this is Dan again, continuing with the seven elements of healing for optimal health, healing, and transformation. Today, we’ll be discussing the Mind element.

Are you the master of your mind or are you its slave? In this case it’s either, or.

Andrew Carnegie explained it well: taking possession of your own mind and directing it towards any ends you desire means you’re the master of your mind. So if you’re not getting what you want, it means you’re a slave to your mind - your mind and your desires are in control of you.

Carnegie taught this to Napoleon Hill, who wrote Think and Grow Rich, his magnum opus about success that took 25 years to complete.

The Two Envelope Theory

Carnegie shared that you receive two envelopes at birth. One envelope says that if you take control of your mind, you will receive riches and blessings bestowed upon you, including sound health. You’ll have peace of mind, the labor of love of your choice, freedom from fear and worry, a positive mental attitude or a growth mindset, material riches of your choice and quantity with no judgment. But if you don’t take control of your mind, there will be penalties and a curse bestowed upon you, and number one is that you will lose your health.

If you don’t take control of your mind, you will be indecisive and doubtful, and you’ll be frustrated and discouraged throughout life. You’ll have fear and worry, and specific negativities will take root in your consciousness -  envy, greed, jealousy, anger, hatred, and superstition - plus poverty and want. And what’s interesting about want is that we always go after what we want while our true needs are not being met.  So when we are not in control of our minds, we don’t know what we really need and instead go for the flashy things that can make it appear like we’re succeeding.

Napoleon Hill also shared a prayer to neutralize negativity: "Oh Divine Providence, I ask not for more riches but for more wisdom with which to make wiser use of the riches you gave me at birth, consisting of the power to control and direct my own mind to whatever ends I desire."

What does this mean? It means that you have free will. There is no external force or God dictating your life choices. You already have all the ingredients to create your own artistic expression of life.

Everyone Has Three Types of Minds

Let’s break down the characteristics of the three types of minds: the creative mind, the intellectual mind, and the emotional mind.

The Creative Mind

. Imagination is the most powerful part of our mind. Everything in life is created from imagination.

  • All success and performance coaches emphasize the power of imagination and visualization.

  • Spend time imagining and visualizing your future self.

The Intellectual Mind

  • Wisdom trumps knowledge, but knowledge is also crucial.

  • The more knowledge you have, the greater your capacity for critical thinking.

  • Perceptions and beliefs are fundamental. You change your perception, you change your reality, which is related to Bruce Lipton’s work on the biology of beliefs.

  • Everything in life is neutral until we put meaning to outside stimuli. Barry Neil Kaufman’s Happiness Is a Choice emphasizes the power of choice and belief. Those that have a growth mindset say “this is happening for me, and it’s a challenge for me to grow and expand into who I’m capable of being in this lifetime” while those with a fixed mindset say “this is happening to me.”

The Emotional Mind

  • The subconscious mind handles 400 billion bits of information per second, whereas the conscious mind can only handle about 2,000 bits per second.

  • The subconscious mind takes everything in and doesn’t have a mechanism to reject or accept, but the conscious mind does.  For example, when I was told that I had terminal cancer, I rejected that in my conscious mind but then I impregnated it into my subconscious mind, which carries out confirmation bias to make that belief system true. So the emotional mind is feelings and vibration, and it all relates to your gut instincts.

  • Emotional intelligence, literacy, and honesty are vital. Recognize and articulate your feelings in the context of situations.

It's kind of sad that I spent 17 years in the public educational system and university, becoming a civil engineer specializing in bridges, yet I didn't know anything about who I was in spirit, my personality, or what I love to do for its own sake. I had no emotional intelligence, no emotional literacy—meaning I couldn't identify or articulate my feelings in the context of situations—and no emotional honesty. I would suppress my feelings and use coping strategies to avoid expressing them so I could fit in and feel accepted by certain groups of people.

Key Takeaways

  1. Practice taking control of your thoughts and feelings. The more control you have, the more personal responsibility you must take.

  2. Spend time in stillness and silence to understand how your mind works.

  3. Use mantras and prayers to support this practice. Giving your mind something to do can help trick it into cooperation.

  4. Change your beliefs and perceptions to change your reality. Your cells listen to your thoughts and respond to your feelings.

  5. Trust what you’re feeling in your body and develop emotional intelligence, emotional literacy, and honesty. This is the greatest measure of life success.

In summary, learning to master your mind involves taking control of your thoughts, perceptions, and feelings. It’s about personal responsibility and using tools like imagination, knowledge, and emotional intelligence to create the life you desire.
