Why We Don’t Heal When We Eat

What's up gang? This is Dan. And I have an important public announcement. It's about fasting, how we actually purify and heal our bodies through fasting - and guess what, I'll give you a key takeaway right away. It's the cheapest way you can do it.

It doesn't cost you anything. In fact, you save money on eating. You save money on doing dishes or energy, doing all the dishes and all that nonsense. But what is fasting? Generally speaking, there's so much out there about fasting. God Bless America, it just chops everything up into all kinds of pieces.

Fasting was essentially a Sabbath day. You would actually take one full calendar day and two full nights as a fast every week - plain and simple, so that fast would be just on water. But now it's well, if I don't do coffee, I’m fasting, and I eat all my junk food. I didn’t do any coffee, but I'm fasting. So it's a crazy world and I get it. But if you’re like me and you want to optimize your understanding of things, then let's just get back to a more professional understanding of it.

So fasting is really something you do daily, something you do weekly, something you do monthly, something you do seasonally, and something you do annually.

Fasting Heals Your Body

Here's a statistic from Thomas Seyfried, the master of cancer as a metabolic disease: if you can work up and practice to do seven full days of water fasting only once a year - you reduce your risk of ever experiencing cancer no matter what your genetic history is by 93%. Because fasting does one thing - it heals your body. It goes into recycling, repair and rejuvenation and detoxification.

Eating Breaks the Body Down

When we eat, we are not building our body up. We're breaking our body down. That's the actual physiology of eating. It breaks the nutrients down. So once you eat something, you're breaking down. The more frequently you're doing that, the more the body gets better at breaking down. Now when you eat inappropriately, which is another talk, then you actually build up unhealthy.  Because the body is looking too fast - you're eating too frequently.

Fasting Allows The Body to Rest and Repair

So fasting allows for the body to rest and go into that recycle repair mode. It's part of our genetic makeup - start eating, stop eating, start eating. But once most people start, they can't stop eating until they're actually full - and so they've lost their intuition and the chemical signals to when to stop eating. They have to go to what's called the stretch reflex so that the stomach's really full and the body says, oh I can't fit anymore. So I'm going to stop, I'm going to give you the signal from a mechanical point of view. We don't want to do that.

So fasting again, you could do daily, weekly, monthly, seasonally and annually as part of living. It's not something you just go do a retreat for three days and you fast and you check it off and then you get on your social media and you brag about it. That's not what it's about. In fact, the most spiritual part of it is you don't do that if you really want to be on the spiritual side of it.

Who Shouldn’t Fast

So everyone can fast except for people who are pregnant, and women that are menstruating - don't do it during menstruation. And, you know that the elderly or even some of the cancer patients that are in cachexia - which means that they're wasting away - might be more mindful about fasting at least long-term.

Fasting Cleans Up Your Cells

Some of the most powerful benefits come after three days of water fasting only. That's going to amplify this thing called autophagy, which is cellular cleanup. I hypothesize that fasting is our vaccination. This is mind-blowing because it actually cleans out the cells which is what viruses do. Viruses clean cells, repairs and rejuvenates them, and gives them the so called RNA update, like updating your computer so to speak. So if we're not fasting we have to use viruses. If we're fasting, we don't need a virus to do that. It’s a very interesting thing to think about. It’s nature's way of helping us deal with not having to go through viral detoxification or upgrades.

So it comes back to that fasting is an upgrade to your system. It accelerates rapidly after three days and peaks at about five days, but if you can start to go into seven you go a little bit deeper. But three to five days once a month or once every season - you're going to be doing yourself a lot of good.

Why I Fast

Why do I fast? Well, I think it strengthens my willpower, strengthens my connection to my soul, and my inner self and my inner strength. When I fast, going without means that I have to go within. That has a trajectory over all of life. And if you have any challenges with alcohol or alcoholism, you're going without. Alcoholics Anonymous says to go within - so that's the nature of how fasting can actually teach you how to do that more easily.

Warning - we are domesticated and this process of getting back to our innate nature and following nature's laws is going to be rocky for a lot of people because of the addictive pathways that we use for food.

Food is the Number One Drug

Food is the number one self-medication. The food industry and food itself is the number one drug in the world. They're the greatest and biggest drug pusher of all. They push you to the medical industry for their drugs and over-the-counter drugs. You can't feed a child a bowl of aspirin with skim milk, right? So you got to give them the shitty cereal and they get their problems, then they go to the doctor for their results. So that's just a whole bunch of things on the simplicity of fasting. It's so cool, it really is. And get yourself a mentor. If you don't know a lot about fasting, you know, you can obviously use Dr. Google.

Key Takeaways

  1. Fasting is natural detoxification. Autophagy is your body's way of naturally detoxifying, cleaning, and upgrading your cellular matrix, everything within the cell. It's a repair, recycling, and detoxification process.

  2. Fasting is anti-inflammatory. Everybody who’s going through this is in inflammatory process. Fasting is the fastest way. It's kind of funny to say that fasting is the fastest way to reduce inflammation. As you go past 48 hours the first couple of hours a day might be uncomfortable because it can aggravate symptoms in the beginning as the cleaning up happens.

  3. Fasting can reduce your risk of cancer. Thomas Seyfried says that a seven-day water fast once a year can reduce your risk of cancer by 93% regardless of genetics.

  4. Fasting is a cheap way to improve your health. Money is not an excuse. If you have a personal vacuum cleaner on board, why not use it?

Dan Hegerich

I'm a holistic heroic performance life coach who empowers people dealing with cancer or chronic illness to find their own path towards healing.

As a 6x cancer survivor, I realized that cancer isn’t the disease - it’s the expression of the disease. Cancer was my body’s way of waking me up. And it became my greatest opportunity to awaken into my own conscious spiritual evolution. That’s why I became a holistic heroic performance coach focused on HOPE - Helping Other People Evolve into their true authentic selves.
