The Water Element - Water’s Powerful Secret Identity

Hello, this is Dan, and today we're diving into the second element: Water. Understanding your relationship with the water element goes beyond its physical properties. Here’s my philosophical way to look at it. Water has a secret identity, and has power over and within you.

We’re living in a framework that says disease is inevitable and is out of our control. I’m trying to help people work through the seven elements of healing, and in this framework, we're exploring how these elements have always been within our control. If you missed the Earth element discussion, I encourage you to catch up before we delve into the Air element next week.

Water, unlike the solid Earth, can be liquid as well as ice. It’s fluids of the body, and includes vital systems like the circulatory and lymphatic systems.

Water Flows Through Many Bodily Systems

The lymphatic system, often overlooked, plays a crucial role as our body's sewer system. It’s more extensive and essential than the blood itself. It cleans the body up and has way more fluid than the blood. It’s another part of the water element.

Cerebrospinal fluid is also part of the water element. You have to pump the body for movement in order for the fluid to move through the actual nervous system and brain. The urinary system and even tears, whether of joy or sorrow, symbolize the active presence of the water element.

Taste is also central to the water element, starting with saliva activation and our relationship with flavors and nourishment. Like smell with the Earth element, taste has a dedicated organ system that reflects its importance.

Water And Our Emotions

Emotionally, the water element encourages a flow state – not passive acceptance, but a dynamic alignment with life's currents. It doesn’t mean that you allow people to walk all over you, but that you’re in the flow state.

Water is nature's solvent, cleansing and purifying the planet, a concept that resonates deeply with me. Philosophically, while the Earth element deals with absolutes, the water element navigates shades of gray – how we feel about situations rather than a simple yes or no. For example, I’d rather have a live audience than talk on camera.

How to Properly Hydrate Your Cells

Fluids is about cellular hydration. Hydration at the cellular level is critical, challenging conventional wisdom about water consumption. A lot of people drink bottled water or flat water that doesn’t really hydrate the cells, but makes them have to urinate a lot. You need active mineral-rich, structured water to properly hydrate the cells.

Structured water, likened to gel, maintains integrity within the body. Sadly, many consume processed or bottled tap water lacking in vital minerals and structure needed for true hydration. It’s man-processed, McDonald’s water that has little filtration.

To enhance water quality, consider adding a half-teaspoon of salt to water overnight, allowing it to dissolve fully. This simple method can improve hydration significantly.

Developing a Good Relationship with Water

Beyond drinking it, fostering a good relationship with water involves bathing in natural bodies like rivers, streams, and oceans – reconnecting with ancient practices of immersion for physical and psychic cleansing.

Taking a bath or shower once a day also helps us to purify not just physically but spiritually, washing away the dust of daily life to maintain clarity and balance. I learned this from Master Lou Chan - “Sweep my mind and body daily I must, to keep me away from the worldly dust.”

Open up your eyes and heart to your current relationship with the Water element, and join me next week as we explore the Air element in depth. Thank you for tuning in.

Key Takeaways

  1. Microbes are Here to Heal Us. There are two sides to the story. Germs can cause disease, but they can also help us to heal.

  2. Earth Helps Us To Be Grounded. It represents our emotional state and physical stamina. Think of standing on our own two feet, being rooted, and physically robust.

  3. Earth Includes Digestion. If you have an issue with digestion, it’s a sign that something is irritating your tissues and may need to be addressed. Allow the microbes to help you rebalance your digestion.

  4. Earth Includes Movement. There are seven primal movement patterns that don’t need to be taught because we learned them at birth. Aligning movement with our innate abilities promotes health, healing and transformation.

Dan Hegerich

I'm a holistic heroic performance life coach who empowers people dealing with cancer or chronic illness to find their own path towards healing.

As a 6x cancer survivor, I realized that cancer isn’t the disease - it’s the expression of the disease. Cancer was my body’s way of waking me up. And it became my greatest opportunity to awaken into my own conscious spiritual evolution. That’s why I became a holistic heroic performance coach focused on HOPE - Helping Other People Evolve into their true authentic selves.
